Description
This Week's Program: Are you wanting to know more about the tweets, whistles and chirps you are hearing either in your backyard or out on the trails in your watershed? Then sign up for this introductory Bird ID course with LRCC Meg on March 31st from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM. We will be hiking along the easy 2.2 mile loop trail at the Pine Hill Conservation Area. Using a variety of methods we will learn and teach each other about the birds we are hearing and hopefully see as we walk through the woods. Participants are welcome to bring ID books, binoculars, and a phone equipped with the CornellLab's Merlin Bird ID application. Participants should bring enough water and food for the duration of the program, we will have a lunch break as well. What to Bring: Participants may bring their own binoculars to use during the hike, but they are not required as sound identification is the most common way to ID birds. If you have the ability to download CornellLab's Merlin Bird ID application on a phone this would also be a helpful tool to help Identify birds, and can be used to help you ID birds in other locations around the Lakes Region! Participants should bring their own food and water for this program, we will be taking breaks along the trail to ID birds and rest if needed, and we will have a break for lunch. Participants should also be sure to have appropriate attire and layering for winter hiking, extra layers, and comfortable water resistant hiking shoes as well as snowshoes and/or microspikes depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes & microspikes for up to six participants. Audience: All are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
