Description
GUEST PRESENTATION How does a state with the motto “Live Free or Die” and a celebrated legacy of abolitionism confront and understand its participation in slavery, segregation, and the neglect of African-American history? Shadows Fall North focuses on the efforts of two dedicated historic preservationists and activists, Valerie Cunningham of Portsmouth and JerriAnne Boggis of Milford, to recover the stories of people who have been rendered nearly invisible in the historical record, from individuals laid to rest at the African Burying Ground in Portsmouth to the novelist Harriet Wilson to the twenty slaves who petitioned the state legislature for their freedom in 1779… and many more. Shadows Fall North seeks to answer the question: What happens when we move toward a fuller understanding of our history by including all voices? Join us for a screening of the film, followed by a moderated discussion with the filmmakers and consulting producer and featured historic preservationist JerriAnne Boggis. The event is FREE and open to the public.
